제목 : Functional Metamaterials and Metadevices
초록 : Controlling the electromagnetic properties of materials, beyond the limit that is attainable with naturally existing substances, has become a reality with the advent of metamaterials. The collection of structured artificial ‘atoms’ has promised a vast variety of otherwise unexpected physical phenomena thus far. From the perspective of realizing functional optical devices, our group has been focusing on the metamaterials consisting of meta-atoms or meta-molecules that maximally utilize strong capacitive coupling between them. In the first part of the talk, I will show that a strongly coupled meta-atom structure that is hybridized with graphene can be used to realize various terahertz (THz) optoelectronic devices such as THz amplitude/phase/polarization modulators and memories. In the second part of the talk, I will present the use of a strongly coupled meta-molecule structure in the manipulation of polarization states in the gigahertz (GHz) frequencies.
