Abstract

Distance is the most fundamental parameter in cosmology, but it is challenging to derive a distance to a galaxy. The tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) is a precise and efficient standard candle. The TRGB can be applied to any types of galaxies, while Cepheids can be used only for late-type galaxies. In the era of precision cosmology, the role of the TRGB is becoming more and more important. I will present a recent progress of the TRGB cosmology, including the Hubble tension and the extent of dark matter in Virgo.
