Abstract:

In this talk, I will discuss our ongoing research projects on the HI properties of galaxies using both radio interferometers and single-dish telescopes to explore the interplay between HI gas kinematics and star formation in galaxies. These studies extend to the investigation of central mass distribution in (dwarf) galaxies and galaxy interactions in group/cluster environments. A newly developed tool for spectral line profile decomposition based on Bayesian nested sampling is key to deriving the galaxy's HI kinematics to best exploit the full 3D information of gaseous components from radio observations. Practical results of the HI kinematic analysis of galaxies using the new method will be introduced, utilizing VLA, ATCA, ASKAP, MeerKAT, and FAST observations. These high-quality HI data provide a preview of SKA and offer useful baselines for relevant studies of HI properties of galaxies in the SKA era. Lastly, I will discuss the latest progress of the SKA-Korea working group and how we have been preparing for the upcoming SKA era.
