Foundation Background
Humanity has reached an era in which its decisions and actions threaten the stability of the entire earth. Development that meets our own needs must not compromise the ability of future generations to respond to their needs. Sustainable development is, therefore, a common agenda for humanity. The UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and following 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the global community's response to these challenges. To achieve the target goals by the year 2030, expert involvement in every field is crucial. For this reason, universities, equipped with the expertise and human resource, are especially asked to participate more actively. The identity as an Engaged University - a university that pursues social engagement - coincides with the core values that Yonsei University has strived for since its foundation. To participate in the global efforts toward the SDGs, Yonsei University founded the Institute for Global Engagement and Empowerment (IGEE) to carry out its mission as a university that aims to resolve social issues and contribute to sustainable development.
