- Analysis of the effect of carbon nanomaterial dimension on the functional activity and degeneration of neurons
- Analysis of the effect of carbon nanomaterial dimension on the functional activity and degeneration of neurons Professor Jongbaeg Kim's research team in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and a research team at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology conducted a study on "fine dust is more lethal to patients with degenerative brain disease than the general public". This study was published in the journal of 'Biomaterials' (Impact Factor: 12.479, top 3.38%, Volume 279) in December 2021. In this paper, we presents that fine dust, which has recently become a social issue, is more lethal to patients with degenerative brain diseases such as dementia than the general public, and that long-term exposure to 3D carbon particles in fine dust can result in the death of nerve cells. - Development of highly sensitive flexible tactile sensor based on carbon nanotubes (2021. 11. 16) Professor Jongbaeg Kim’s research group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering developed a highly sensitive tactile sensor which was selected as the front cover paper of a renowned nano-engineering journal ‘SMALL’ (Impact Factor:13.281, Top 6.88%, Volume 17 Issue 50). In this paper, we proposed a flexible tactile sensor using a hierarchical structure with carbon nanotube bundles to achieve high sensitivity and wide sensing range simultaneously. Furthermore, its application as a haptic glove and a multi-directional force sensor was demonstrated.Professor Jongbaeg Kim’s research group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering developed a highly sensitive tactile sensor which was selected as the front cover paper of a renowned nano-engineering journal ‘SMALL’ (Impact Factor:13.281, Top 6.88%, Volume 17 Issue 50). - Developed lab-on-printed circuit board(PCB) based water harvesting condensation particle counter for ubiquitous monitoring of airborne ultrafine particles(2021. 11. 05) Professor Yong-Jun Kim's research team in the Department of Mechanical Engineering used Lab-on-PCB (Printed Circuit Board) technology for the measurement of airborne nanoparticles, and integrated the functions of elements necessary for water droplet growth in a single chip. Therefore, the CPC (condensation particle counter) was remarkably miniaturized/low cost, which made it possible to mass-produce as well as portable devices. The Lab-on-PCB-based CPC was able to grow even 10 nm-sized nanoparticles into water droplets, proving that high-precision monitoring of nanoparticles with accuracy comparable to commercial CPC is possible. In recognition of the excellence of this research, it was awarded the best paper award in the oral section at the Korean Society of Indoor Environment in 2021, and was published in the Journal of Aerosol Science (IF: 3.433). - Overcoming Ion Hybrid Capacitor Limitations Review Study (2021.11.01)
- Overcoming Ion Hybrid Capacitor Limitations Review Study Professor Seong Chan Jun's research team in the Department of Mechanical Engineering published a review paper on carbonaceous anode materials. Na and K ion hybrid capacitors, which are currently attracting attention for their low cost, high energy density and power density, and excellent stability, have limitations in slow reaction rate due to low reliability of the material used as anode. This research team reviewed the use of carbonaceous anode materials with high ion storage potential in capacitors to solve these limitations, and the results of this study were published in ACS Energy Letters (IF: 23.101) in recognition of their excellence.
