▣ Abstract
Hysteresis motors are electric machines that utilize the magnetic hysteresis property of the secondary materials to generate torque, and are known for their advantages of simple structure, constant torque generation, and self-starting capability. They are highly attractive for special precision applications such as in-vacuum operation and high-bandwidth high-speed drives, especially when paired with magnetic bearings. However, due to their nonlinear torque-current relationship and low torque capability, today’s hysteresis motors are primarily used under open-loop operation and for low precision applications. This presentation will introduce the methods that extend the hysteresis motors’ capability through enabling their high bandwidth control, and demonstrate their various applications in precision mechatronic systems. We will also introduce other projects on magnetically levitated motion systems.
