Research Areas & Labs

In the field of VLSI and computer, we study intelligent systems that adapt and learn on their own even in real environments which are full of ambiguity and uncertainty just as humans use highly intelligent information processing mechanisms to solve difficult problems. In order to implement an intelligent system, it is necessary to cope with uncertainty in the real environment, ability to adapt and learn, and optimal directivity. Related undergraduate courses include basic circuit theory, data structure, and digital logic circuit, computer architecture, digital electronic circuit, digital system design, microprocessor, and operating system theory.

Intelligent Computing

Intelligent Vehicles Intelligent vehicles, often referred to as autonomous driving systems, are highly integrated research topics that combine conventional control, communication, SoC, and computer engineering. This is a field that studies technologies that enable safe and fast control over a low-power, high-performance embedded computing system mounted on a by sharing driving information through vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) or server communication. Related undergraduate courses include control engineering, digital control engineering, communication theory, digital communication, electronic circuits, embedded systems and digital system design, computer architecture and microprocessors.
Beyond 5G Mobile Networks & IoT Beyond 5G Mobile Networks & Internet of Things (IoT) is a research field on the next-generation mobile communication environments and systems. The future mobile communication will be reshaped to machine-to-machine connections based on cloud computing and networks and information collection sensors. Detailed research topics include low-power, low-latency, massively parallel, reliable, and secure connections. Related undergraduate courses include communication theory, digital communication, embedded system and digital system design.

IT industry and our society are rapidly changing due to recent innovations in computing systems. The 4th industrial revolution, represented by machine learning, autonomous vehicles, Internet of Things, mobile and cloud computing, etc., is made possible through intelligent computing. Computer architecture and VLSI are research fields that form the core of intelligent computing to enable efficient processing of exponentially increasing data and accelerate social change. Related undergraduate courses include digital logic circuits, data structures, computer structures, microprocessors, operating systems, digital system design, and embedded system labs.
