Undergraduate Program

Our curriculum offers courses across the areas of textile science, apparel production /construction, apparel design/planning, and fashion marketing/business/consumer behavior where students can understand the multidisciplinary nature of the clothing and textile industry and develop abilities to understand and critically analyze the interaction between humans and the various elements of the clothing and textile industry.

Course Descriptions

Apparel Industry and Fashion / 3 credits

This course introduces overall structure of apparel industry including textiles, design, construction and marketing perspectives and suggests the vision of the fashion and apparel industry.

Introduction of Pattern Design / 3 credits

A course for basic pattern making and clothing construction principles through scientific somatotype observation, anthropometry and body function analyses.

Fashion Marketing / 3 credits

 

Understanding Apparel Materials / 3 credits

A course dealing with the structure and property relationship of fibers, yarns and fabrics to predict end-use performance as apparel textiles.

Apparel Design / 3 credits

This class is aiming to study the research and idea development skils, as well as explore the essential stages of design process. Through various of design-related researchs and apparel design projects, students will learn how to format the design ideas and translate them into design works.

Clothing Construction / 3 credits

A course for clothing construction and improving sewing techniques and methods for expression of creative designs.

Marketing Channel for Fashion Product / 3 credits

This course introduces the field of fashion retailing and focuses on the development of retail buying strategies for fashion products. Topic include trends in the fashion retailing industry, buyer`s roles, buying plan, merchandising management and retailing strategy.

History of Western Costume / 3 credits

This course introduces the chronicles of western costume from recorded history to the present, to increase students’ understandings and appreciations of the evolution of the western world of clothing, as it relates to social history, culture, art movement, politics, economics and technological development.

Textile Finishing and Advanced Materials / 3 credits

A course for textile finishing method of advanced textile materials and their performance and aesthetic properties based on finishing principles of fibers and fabrics.

Plat Pattern Design / 3 credits

Concepts and practices for the design and development of basic apparel items, beginning with selection of fabric and other raw materials and extending through flat pattern development, pattern engineering, and generation of prototype garments. Provide techniques for development of styled patterns, which address issues of body measurements, body shape, comfort, and fit.

Analysis & Elementary Lab of Apparel Materials / 3 credits

This elementary lab course provides an opportunity for investigation of the physical and chemical structure and properties of fibers, yarns, and fabrics commonly used in apparel. Class activities and projects include fabric analysis to become familiar with fabric names, properties, and end uses.

Fashion Advertising & Promotion / 3 credits

This course gives students opportunities to learn of advertising & promotion theory and cases, to analyze advertising methods and trends, and to develop the advertisement and promotion strategy.

Pattern Draping / 3 credits

Draping garments on full-size dress form: theory and fundamental skills of fitting and construction.

Clothing and Environment / 3 credits

To learn clothing comfort, sustainability in textile industry and technology convergence for smart clothing in the context of interaction among man-clothing-environment triads.

Evaluation and Testing of Textile Materials / 3 credits

The lecture covers the evaluations of performance properties of fabrics and garments with emphasis on the quality control and product developments. Labs will introduce various test methods, data generation for analysis and evaluation.

Brand Management of Culture and Fashion / 3 credits

This course introduces brand theory and fashion cases and also focuses on the development of new fashion brands by the brand project. Topics include brand analysis, trends in branding, fashion branding strategy, and future fashion branding.

History of Asian Costume / 3 credits

A chronological study of Asian and Korean traditional costume from ancient times to the early 20th century.

Apparel Design and Product Planning / 3 credits

Development of feasible fashion-concept founded on creative thinking; Application of the developed concept to fashion planning process.

Fashion Business System / 3 credits

The purpose of this class is let students determine the nature of the fashion business and to help identify the right job for them. Learn the diversification and globalization of the modern fashion industry. Understand the structural features and related elements of the fashion business.

Fashion Innovation & Entrepreneurship / 3 credits

This course provides an overview of innovation and entrepreneurship and surveys innovative business models in fashion retailing. The course lets students practice their ability to develop innovative fashion business proposals that provide social benefits. Through this, the course aims to embed a creative and flexible business mindset among students.

Apparel Production Total System / 3 credits

This class covers current issues of apparel industry including apparel product development, apparel merchandising, and production mamagement. Current trends in manufacturing processes are also discussed.

Social Psychology of Clothing / 3 credits

This course explores social psychological and cultural aspects of clothing in relation to human behavior. Broadly discusses theories of self-concept, personality, social roles and conformity, clothing interests, attitudes, and social cultural meanings of fashion.

Textile Construction and Design / 3 credits

A practical course dealing with principles of basic/applied fabric construction, and design method for weaving and knitting by use of CAD.

Fabric Developments/Information / 3 credits

Practical application of serviceability including appearance of yarns and fabrics for the fabrication. Procedures for consumer survey, sourcing, converting of fabrics, selection of fabrics from the domestic and international fabric shows etc. are included.

Apparel Pattern Design / 3 credits

Students learn how to make a special design for dress, coat, pants. The class includes flat pattern making and sewing technologies.

Tailoring / 3 credits

Tailoring course dealing with costs and special clothing with special construction techniques.

Care and Maintenance of Clothing / 3 credits

The objectives of this course are to study clothing care and various washing methods. It also provides understanding quality control exercises to ensure quality of the garments.

Fashion Color and Planning / 3 credits

This course aims to study the fundamental theories for fashion color planning and the application in fashion planning process.

Surface Design For Fashion / 3 credits

Understanding the concept of Textile Design depending upon the fashion end-use. Learning about surface design & 3D mapping by (TEXPRO) tools, according to its character and structure of the textile.

Psychology of Fashion and Apparel Industry / 3 credits

This course explores social psychological theories of fashion to understand the social backgrounds and characteristics of fashion change. Students practice to discover new cultural dimensions of fashion, and to create communication contents for the fashion industry.

Fashion Industry Internship / 3 credits

Students will gain valuable insight in both theory and practice through on-the-job training and special lecture series. This course will help students to understand various career opportunities in the fashion industry and explore their future career path in the field of Apparel and Textiles.

Fashion Products & International Trade / 3 credits

This course studies the basic theories and principles of international trade that influences the global fashion industry environment, and practices global sourcing and retailing of fashion products.

Sustainability and Fashion Design / 3 credits

This class is focused on the most current issues and movements of sustainability & fashion design. It will lead students to face the bloody reality of sustainability in fashion design industry and let them practice how to create and re-create fashion products for the sake of sustainability using the ideas of modular design & platform strategy.

Functional Textile Materials / 3 credits

Functional clothing and their materials will be studied in terms of leisure sportswear and protective clothing. Application, selection criteria and limits of the products will be discussed.

The Practice of Fashion Planning / 3 credits

Acquisition of methods and skills required in each stage of professional fashion planning process in apparel industry: Including personal portfolio-work.

Global Culture & Luxury Management / 3 credits

This course introduces global luxury marketing strategies and related cases. Also this course focuses on the development of global luxury fashion marketing strategies and research of luxury consumers and brands.

Field Training in Apparel and Textile / 3 credits

This course is designed to provide students with basic professional skills and job experience through on-the-job training in the field of Apparel and Textiles.

Consumer Behavior and Fashion / 3 credits

This course introduces social psychological theories related to consumer behaviors of fashion products, and research techniques to examine fashion market trends and consumer characteristics.

Clothing and Sensibility Science / 3 credits

This lecture learns the overall definition and evaluation methods of sensibility and sensibility science, and application cases of clothing sensibility science.

Functional Apparel Construction / 3 credits

Extreme sports wear and body control sports wear will be studied through the independent study and team research.

Textile Industry and Intellectual Property Rights / 3 credits

To learn background of the importance of intellectual property rights by looking at the changes of the textile industry and development direction and patent trends for the advanced and the converged textile products.

Fashion-Product Development and Fashion Design / 3 credits

This class aims to study how to develop a fashion product from a fashion design idea by association of the fashion design skills with knowledges on the other aspects in clothing and textiles.

Fashion Consumer Culture and Consumerism / 3 credits

This course explores Consumer Culture Theories (CCT) discussing various material, economic, institutional and symbolic meanings of fashion and their impacts on consumers and society, to promote responsible and rightful fashion consumption culture.

Textile Dyeing / 3 credits

To learn dyeing systems in apparel industry and concept, theory, and techniques of textile dyeing and printing including natural and general dyeing, Digital Textile Printing etc.
